President and Founder

Skyler Nelson

Please feel free to contact me!

Skyler Nelson is a U.S. Army combat veteran and the founder of Bailey Military Support, originally established in 2022 as Bailey Military Family Support Group. Drawing from her own military experience, Skyler is dedicated to supporting current and former service members and their families through advocacy, mental health initiatives, and community-based programs. She has been married for 15 years to a fellow Army veteran, whom she met while stationed in Alaska. They are proud parents of two sons, whom they deeply adore.

During her deployment in Iraq, Skyler contracted tuberculosis, which led to a challenging 10-month battle with the illness and ultimately ended her military career. After transitioning out of the Army, she underwent 13 surgeries on her trachea as a result of the long-term damage, giving her firsthand insight into the complex medical and emotional challenges many veterans face.

Determined to find a new sense of purpose, Skyler earned a Bachelor of Science in Business Management and a Master of Science in Psychology. She is also a member of the American Psychological Association and Psi Chi - The International Honor Society for Psychology.
In 2017, the passing of her beloved mentor, Command Sergeant Major Scott Bailey, marked a turning point in Skyler’s life. His unwavering support, guidance, and belief in her potential had a profound impact on both her personal growth and professional path. As a trusted mentor and role model, he encouraged her to lead with compassion, stand firm in her convictions, and never lose sight of the importance of service to others. His influence shaped the foundation of her advocacy work and continues to guide her mission. After his death, Skyler felt a deep responsibility to carry on his legacy of caring for service members and their families—a commitment that remains at the heart of everything she does.

Her dedication and impact have earned her several honors, including being named the 2021 Veteran of the Year for El Paso County, Colorado, a 2022 Community Hero by the American Red Cross, a finalist for the 2023 Colorado Springs Mayor’s Young Leader Awards, and a 2024 Ent Community Advocate.

Vice President

Christine Schmidt

Please feel free to contact me!

Christine Schmidt (Morrison) is a Gold Star wife, devoted mother of two, and full-time student pursuing a degree in Health Information Technology. In 2016, she experienced the tragic loss of her husband, Sergeant James Morrison, to suicide—a life-altering event that has shaped her journey while deepening her strength and determination.

Sergeant Morrison was a decorated combat veteran who served three combat tours and was awarded the Army Commendation Medal with Valor for his heroic actions during a battle in Afghanistan. In the wake of profound personal loss, Christine has remained a steadfast source of strength for her family and a compassionate advocate for military families facing similar challenges.

Through her resilience and openness in sharing her story, Christine continues to inspire others and plays an important role in raising awareness and support for the mental health needs of service members and their loved ones.
